Arabi Elementary, Teacher Feature: Felicia Butler

Today is #TeacherFeatureWednesday, and the St. Bernard Parish School Board would like to salute Felicia Butler at Arabi Elementary School.

“Last year, after losing a special education teacher, we were fortunate to add Ms. Felicia Butler to our teaching corps at Arabi Elementary. We had several weeks before Ms. Butler joined us in November, when our instructional coach, our Asst. Principal and I shared teaching duties, with the substitute and paraprofessional as Ms. Butler’s job required a very special skill set. I can say with certainty, Ms. Butler was worth the wait! Her knowledge, expertise, and professionalism with our students and our parents can be described as remarkable. Even in the most challenging of situations, Ms. Butler calmly displays consistency, high expectations, compassion and love for each of her students. She exemplifies all of the characteristics of a great teacher and helps our children to grow emotionally as well as academically.  We are so happy that Ms. Butler decided to join the fantastic teaching corps of Arabi Elementary School and St. Bernard Parish.”

- Carla Carollo, Principal

“Ms. Butler is the most adaptable, fun-loving, hard-working teacher at Arabi Elementary. She is wonderful, kind, and supportive. She makes lessons fun, which encourages her class to try harder. Her students have a feeling of family and they share in her love and respect for learning.”

- Katie McNab, Teacher

“Ms. Butler is an amazing teacher.  She has created a supportive learning atmosphere which addresses her students' IEP goals while developing a spirit of teamwork among her students and co-workers.  Her students have made tremendous progress as a result of her efforts and positive attitude.  She is definitely an "alpha" Arabi Alligator.”

- Geralyn Russo, Assistant Principal

“Ms. Butler is dedicated to her students and she finds a way to tap into their strengths and celebrate their successes. She is so patient and calm, no matter what challenge is thrown her way.”

– Michelle Ingraffia, Teacher

“Ms. Butler has a heart of gold! She has to deal with some of our toughest students and continues to do it with kindness and a smile on her face each day.”

-   Alaa Alkurd, Teacher

“Ms. Butler is a fair, loving, yet stern teacher. She knows that her students each have unique exceptionalities, but focuses on their potential to learn and adapt in today’s world. She believes that every child can and will succeed.  She is truly an asset to Arabi Elementary’s staff, its students and their parents.”

– Kay Simon, Special Education Teacher
