Update from the Superintendent (09.28.2021)

Families,

Thanks to your efforts and support and the hard work of our entire school family, we were able to reopen our schools last week. As we all know, in-person learning is crucial to the well-being and success of all of our students.

Unfortunately, because of Hurricane Ida and its aftermath, our St. Bernard Parish Public Schools were closed for nine instructional days. In accordance with state law, we must adjust our school calendar to include the minimum number of instructional minutes required per school year.

At last night’s meeting, the St. Bernard Parish School Board approved the following calendar changes recommended for the remainder of the 2021-2022 school year:

  1. Add three instructional days
    1. November 1 - originally scheduled as a holiday; this day will now serve as an instructional day for all students and staff.
    2. November 2 - originally scheduled as a professional development day; this day will now serve as an instructional day for all students and staff.
    3. January 18 - originally scheduled as a professional development day; this day will now serve as an instructional day for all students and staff.
  2. Modify the number of instructional minutes within our existing school days
    1. This modification will not lengthen the school day.

This means that students will now attend school on Monday, November 1, Tuesday, November 2, and Tuesday, January 18 during the 2021-2022 school year.

School calendars have been updated on our websites. You can access the district's calendar by clicking on the following link: https://www.sbpsb.org/Page/2#calendar1/20210928/month

Thank you for your continued support of our school system. Through our unified approach, we can foster a learning environment where all students can grow and succeed.

As always, stay well, stay informed, and let’s work to keep the unity in our community

Sincerely,

Doris Voitier
