Two St. Bernard Parish Educators Receive API Teacher Awards

Chalmette, LA - Chalmette High School’s Lynda Rost and Lacoste Elementary School’s Melissa Dusang were recently honored by the Delta Chapter of the American Petroleum Institute as educators who exhibit a commitment to teaching, resourcefulness, professional involvement, and community service. For their excellence in and out of the classroom, the API Teacher Award Program bestowed Rost the Chairman's Award and Dusang the Distinguished Teacher Award.

Rost and Dusang continue a tradition of academic excellence in their community. Over the years, St. Bernard Parish has been home to two Louisiana Teachers of the Year, four Milken Educator winners, and a bevy of state, regional, and national awards honorees.

Superintendent Doris Voitier said she is proud of this legacy of learning.

“Everything we do here is focused on helping children and strengthening our community through education and the opportunities that it creates,” said Voitier. “We are so proud and thankful that Ms. Rost and Ms. Dusang truly represent excellence in the classroom. As two of our district-wide teachers of the year, they are very deserving of this recognition.”

As the school year winds down, Voitier also expressed her gratitude to all of the employees in the district and invited adults in the community to consider a career in education. “We are always looking for compassionate and dedicated individuals to be part of our district. From bus drivers to classroom teachers, there is a place for you here in our school family.”
