These victories at the state level provide an opportunity to compete at the national level, being held at the Savannah International Convention Center in Georgia this summer.

With more than 500,000 active members and 14,000 clubs nationally and internationally, National Beta promotes the ideals of academic achievement, character, service and leadership among elementary and secondary school students.

Sharene Dali, one of middle school Beta sponsors, said the students represented their school and community very well. "We are so proud of these students and the hard work they exhibited throughout the school year.”  Dali said that club members are also required to complete school and community service projects as part of the organization's pillars. This year, Trist Beta joined forces with the Kiwanis Builders Club to organize four projects to benefit the community: A candy drive for Nunez Trunk-or-Treat, a Thanksgiving Food Basket Drive for local families, a Holiday Toy Drive to help local non-profit GDFN, and a Hygiene Drive to benefit the Community Center of St. Bernard.

She said this year’s group included 60 members competing in over 40 categories. “When you're sitting there in the CajunDome and you see 10,000 kids having fun and showing off their smarts and talents-- it's a pretty incredible thing. This organization is definitely special. Our students, even if they didn't leave with an award, are walking away with great memories and the experience of a lifetime."
