Arabi Elementary Students Grateful During the Season of Giving

Chalmette, LA - It was literally music to their ears when the music students at Arabi Elementary School were gifted a new class set of headphones by the Old Arabi Neighborhood Association (OANA). Each year, OANA supports families in need with a $5000 donation to the school. But this year, the Association wanted to also support the school’s music program led by Sara Stevens, its music teacher.

Alison Barrios, the President of OANA, said it was a small token of appreciation.

“Each year, the performers from Arabi Elementary kick off our annual Sugar Fest,” she said. “When we heard Ms. Stevens needed new equipment for her students, the Board decided to buy a new set of headphones for the kids to use in class to practice. OANA loves its community and is always looking to help and support the children of our neighborhood.”

Stevens said the headphones were utilized immediately.

“All students at Arabi Elementary use the keyboards in music class — from kindergarteners learning their right and left hands to fifth graders writing their own songs,” she said. “We are so appreciative of the gift of headphones we received this year from the Old Arabi Neighborhood Association since it helps our students and our school’s music program. Thank you so much!”
