Hands-On Learning Featured as Part of Maumus Center Field Trip

Chalmette, LA - Third graders from across the district returned to the Maumus Center recently for an exploration and immersion into science. After learning about the connection of food chains and the energy paths in an ecosystem, the students did hands-on activities to bring the learning to life. After a series of labs, games, and small group activities, the students visited the state-of-the-art planetarium for a presentation on the various earth habitats.

The interactive lights, stereo sound, and high-quality video created a fun and lively learning environment for the students.

Gena Asevado, the instructor and manager of the Maumus Center, said she was glad to have visitors on the campus again.

“Our planetarium is an extraordinary teaching tool,” she said. “Having our students engaged in science and working together while learning is truly a highlight. We look forward to hosting more and more learning opportunities here as the year progresses.
