“The Teacher of the Year program acknowledges and celebrates our district’s exceptional educators,” Voitier said. “These teachers’ commitment to student success exemplifies all that is good in our public schools. We are proud to have them in our classrooms.”

School winners will also compete at the district level when community leaders and educators conduct interviews to select an elementary, middle, and high school district winner. Those winners then compete for statewide consideration.

St. Bernard Parish Public Schools has a long history of its teachers being recognized at the state level, including three statewide winners. The 2022 Louisiana Teacher of the Year, Annelise Cassar Tedesco, currently teaches at Chalmette High School and serves as the Music Director of CHS Voices. The district has also had several teachers recognized at the semi-finalist and finalist rounds of the competition.

Voitier said this legacy of excellence allows the district to flourish. “We are all united by our commitment to public education, and we congratulate this year’s Teachers of the Year. Each has a gift – one of love, commitment, dedication, and above all compassion. I am proud to say that these teachers are ours.”
