Ring Day for the Class of 2021

Chalmette, LA - It was a different venue but the same time-honored traditions that were celebrated when Chalmette High School hosted its annual Ring Day for the Class of 2021.

Held on the field of Bobby Nuss Stadium, over 350 seniors took part in this ceremony which marked their first milestone towards graduation.

In her remarks to the graduates, Superintendent Doris Voitier acknowledged the challenges and changes inherent in this school year, but she also reminded the audience of the special memories that have been a part of past celebrations in the stadium.

“For generations, this football field has brought people together.   Homecoming courts, special Olympians, band members, cheerleaders, Charmers, and high school athletes have all enjoyed the pageantry and traditions that are an integral part of what makes Chalmette High such a special place and a home for so many of us,” Voitier said.

Following Voitier’s remarks, senior class sponsors Tom Dugger, Monica Hentze, Lynda Rost, and Alison Schroeder announced each senior’s name as they took the traditional walk through the oversized ring iconic of the day - and of the connection to CHS.

In her closing remarks, Voitier thanked everyone who made the event possible, and reminded everyone of the power of hope.

“As a community, we have weathered many storms,” she said. “And though our routines and rhythms have been disrupted, what has never changed is the unity and community of the Fighting Owls. This school is so much more than a place. It is the people. It is your classmates. It is your family. And the spirit of the thousands of others who welcome you into that family today.”

Several school board members were also in attendance to congratulate the seniors on their special day: Diana Dysart, Clifford Englande, Katherine Lemoine, Carly Jackson, Darleen Asevedo, Sean Warner, and Rosiland White.

CHS Principal Wayne Warner concluded the event by reminding the students of the importance of this celebration.

“Seniors, the day is yours.”
