School Board Participates in Rotary Spelling Bee
St. Bernard Parish School District staff and retired teachers participated in the 18th Annual Community Spelling Bee hosted by the St. Bernard Parish Rotary Club. The competition was moderated by Chalmette High School teachers Annelise Cassar and Arianna Cassar-Cruice alongside senior Kelsey Billiot who served as this year’s bee mascot.
The competition raised over $6,000.00, and funds generated will be used to support international and local initiatives.
Dr. Hugh Craft, Rotarian and current School Board Member, said the event was a huge success.
“With twenty teams competing, we were able to generate a significate amount of money for important international and local community service projects. Locally, our Club is able to support initiatives like Project Graduation, provide scholarships for graduating seniors, and sponsor the CHS Interact Club.”
School Board Member and Rotarian Sean Warner said the success of the event had to be shared with Chalmette High principal Wayne Warner for hosting the bee, faculty member, Fred Hebert, who oversaw the lighting and sound for the program, and the CHS Interact Club for providing the concessions.
"The Rotary Club of St. Bernard remains forever in debt to the faculty, staff and students of CHS. We would not be able to provide such a quality event without their help. Go owls!"
