Chalmette High School Football Coach Jason Tucker Secures Record for All-Time Wins

Chalmette, LA - It was a big win for the Chalmette Owls on Friday night. The football team went undefeated in district play, clinching the district championship, and Coach Jason Tucker cemented his legacy, becoming the school’s all-time winningest coach. With the victory over Riverdale, Tucker passes Bobby Nuss whose record stood for more than four decades.

Tucker, a graduate and former football standout for the Owls, said he bleeds maroon and white.

“To be a part of the same program that helped mold me is truly humbling,” Tucker said.

A 26-year veteran of the high school coaching circuit, Tucker has led the Owls since 2007. He called his latest victory a special one. “Any time your name is mentioned in the same breath as a great coach like Bobby Nuss, you feel nothing but pride.” 

He credits his coaching staff for the program’s continued success.

“The consistency of our coaching staff makes the biggest difference of all. It is the backbone of our football program.”

Tucker said his coaching focus is on accountability and communication. 

“It’s important that our players understand that we need them to be good citizens and that representing our school on the field is an honor they must earn,” he said. “Our players hear this message often — they not only represent their surname on the back of their jerseys; they also represent our school with Chalmette on the front.“

Tucker said the support of his family and school family has been an integral part of his success. 

“My wife and I are both educators in St. Bernard and make a great team,” he said. “Her support and that of my family, the awesome administration at Chalmette High School, our Athletic Director, and our entire school system really make this place like family.”

He referred to his tenure at CHS as a true group effort. 

“Although this accomplishment seems like an individual goal, it really is a tribute to the success of our entire program. It’s a result of the hard work and dedication of all that have come before and many that are still here.”
