New Team at Chalmette Elementary Welcomes Students Back to School

Principal Katie McNab and Assistant Principal Andrea Woodward recently welcomed back over 500 students to Chalmette Elementary to begin the new school year

There is a new administrative team in place to start the new school year at Chalmette Elementary School. Katie McNab, the new principal, and her assistant principal, Andrea Woodward, recently welcomed 516 students back to the home and hallways of the CES Vikings.

McNab, a 20 year veteran of the St. Bernard Parish Public School System replaces Liz Winslow, a 40 year veteran of the district. McNab said Winslow instilled the importance of cultivating and developing the whole child - academically and emotionally. McNab knows she has some big shoes to fill, but is excited in her leadership role. “I hope to make a difference in a child’s life,” she said. “I want to let the students know that they matter and are loved. I want to do everything in my power to make them lifelong learners.”

Woodward’s new role as an administrator comes after serving twelve years as a teacher and teacher leader in the district’s elementary schools. She looks forward to the challenge of her new position and working as part of the team.

“I am looking forward to building new relationships with students, families, and teachers and am hoping to create a sense of family within our school and community,” Woodward said.

She also offers this back to school advice. “A great start to a new school year begins with being prepared and being excited,” she said. “Take every opportunity you can to be involved in your child's school and education.”

School Board President Diana Dysart said she and the Board expect great things from this “dynamic duo.”

“Liz Winslow really left a legacy of learning, and we are confident that Katie and Andrea will continue it and build upon it,” Dysart said. “Our district’s theme this year is focused on unity, and I know our team at Chalmette Elementary will truly work together to bring learning to life.”
