Introductory Information




    This handbook contains information regarding policies and procedures at Chalmette Elementary School. Please read it carefully and keep it handy throughout the year to assist you and your child when questions arise concerning school policies. Also, don’t forget to mark your calendar with the important dates listed on Page One. However, be aware that due to the current pandemic all procedures and dates are subject to change.


    Topics in the body of this handbook have been arranged alphabetically in the Table of Contents for easy reference. A Pre-K supplement is included at the end of the handbook to provide additional information for parents of students in the four-year old program.

    School Mascot: Viking*


    *Chalmette Elementary School was built on the site of the former Chalmette Middle School, whose mascot was the Viking. To honor our past as we move toward the future, we adopted the Vikings as our mascot.



    Chalmette Elementary School will become the preeminent leader in implementing positive, research-based instruction using dynamic teaching methods and cutting edge technology.



    The mission of Chalmette Elementary School is to foster the intellectual development of every student in a caring, creative environment which respects the individual needs of each child. We strive, by establishing high expectations and providing challenging learning experiences, to develop confident, respectful learners capable of critical and creative thinking.
