Mary Lumetta was appointed Superintendent of the St. Bernard Parish Public Schools in 2026. She became Superintendent after more than 36 years of dedicated service to the St. Bernard Parish School System, following successful experiences as a Curriculum Coordinator, Testing and Accountability Coordinator, Middle and High School Supervisor of Instruction, and Deputy Superintendent. Prior to joining the district, she served as a high school mathematics teacher and college mathematics instructor, building a strong foundation in teaching, curriculum, and educational leadership.

A graduate of Andrew Jackson High School in Chalmette, Mrs. Lumetta earned a Bachelor of Arts in Secondary English Education from the University of New Orleans. She later earned a Master of Science in Teaching Mathematics from Loyola University New Orleans and a Master of Arts in Educational Administration from the University of New Orleans. Throughout her career, she has remained committed to strengthening teaching and learning, improving student achievement, and supporting educators through curriculum development, instructional leadership, accountability, professional learning, and strategic planning.

Mrs. Lumetta has been recognized throughout her career for excellence in education and leadership, including being named Teacher of the Year, receiving the Louisiana Association of Computer Using Educators (LACUE) Region 1 Leader of the Year Award, and being honored as the St. Bernard Business and Professional Women's Club Model Working Woman. She is committed to working with students, families, employees, the School Board, and the community to ensure every student has the opportunity to achieve success and graduate prepared for college, careers, and life.
