St. Bernard Parish Students Excel at Junior Beta State Convention

Students from across St. Bernard Parish Public Schools recently demonstrated their academic talent, creativity, and leadership at the National Beta Louisiana Junior State Convention held at the Cajundome in Lafayette, Louisiana.

More than 11,000 students from across the state participated in the annual convention, competing in academic, STEM, visual arts, and performing arts events. Students from Lacoste Elementary School, Andrew Jackson Middle School, St. Bernard Middle School, and N.P. Trist Middle School proudly represented the district and earned multiple honors.

Lacoste Elementary School

Twenty-four members of the Beta Club from Lacoste Elementary School competed in 41 categories, including academic subjects, visual arts, engineering, and performing arts.

Awards included:
1st Place Creative Writing – Lenna Moynan
4th Place Spanish (4th Grade) – Hadassa Lopez Patcheco
4th Place Speech – Charlotte St. Germain

Students also participated in photography, math, language arts, science, poetry, digital art, woodworking, engineering, quiz bowl, musicology, performing arts, cake decorating, and team competitions such as Living Literature and Songfest.

St. Bernard Middle School

Students from St. Bernard Middle School earned several placements across academic competitions:

N.P. Trist Middle School

Students from N.P. Trist Middle School earned multiple honors across academic, performing arts, and STEM competitions at the convention.

Award-winning results included:

1st Place Engineering – Micah Bastoe, Cade Billiot, Gianni Domino, Jayden Forvendel, Brantley Topey

2nd Place Apparel Design – Zoe Johnson

2nd Place Living Literature – Club Competition

2nd Place Robotics – Scarlett Aranda, Jonah Capstick, Jack McMullin, Ethan Nguyen, Mackenzie Shreeve, Noah Wagner, Joshua Moity

2nd Place SongFest – Club Competition

2nd Place Math (8th Grade) – Jack McMullin

3rd Place Solo/Duo/Trio Vocal – Autumn Higginbotham, Ava Petitfils

5th Place ELA (8th Grade) – Briley Blackwell

In addition, Autumn Higginbotham and Ava Petitfils were recognized as Premier Performers for their outstanding stage performances.

N.P. Trist students also competed in a wide range of additional events, including visual arts (photography, painting, drawing, mixed media, anime, and fiber arts), small group performing arts, onsite art competitions, speech, academic testing across multiple subject areas, and club design competitions such as trading pin, accessorized design, 2D design, and 3D design.
