St. Bernard Parish Public School System Celebrates Chalmette High’s Class of 2026

Bobby Nuss Stadium was packed when Chalmette High’s Class of 2026 donned their caps and gowns and officially walked into the next chapter of their lives. Warm evening sunlight and a pleasant breeze were the perfect backdrop for the celebration, hinting at long summer days and adventures to come as these graduates make their way out into the world. Beneath the open sky, surrounded by family, friends, and faculty, the ceremony served as a fitting reminder that for these seniors, the sky is truly the limit.

The event kicked off with the procession of Class Officers and Honor Graduates to the stage, followed by a warm welcome from Mistress of Ceremonies and Senior Class President Celine Bioc. Senior Class Recording Secretary Destiny Bullock read the Invocation, followed by the AFJROTC’s Presentation of Colors and the National Anthem, performed by CHS chorus and band. Kaden Roach, Senior Class Corresponding Secretary, led the Pledge of Allegiance before handing the mic to Senior Class Vice President Jackson Nunez who introduced the onstage guests.

Senior Class Treasurer Ana Pereira introduced Principal Emeritus Wayne Warner, who presented the American Legion Award to Jackson Nunez, given to a student who possesses the qualities of courage, honor, leadership, patriotism, scholarship, and service. Warner also reminded the seniors that every day is a new beginning. “Everyday is a chance to do something great, and the choice is always yours,” Warner said. “You can have a happy life if you choose it. You decide if you’re going to do the right thing, take advantage of the right opportunities, like those you had during these four precious years at Chalmette High. Every day, I hope you remember that the choices you make today shape your world tomorrow.”

Superintendent Doris Voitier, introduced by Senior Class Historian Nickobe Lewis, addressed the seniors, congratulating them on a successful year and reflecting on how far they’ve come. “It is a privilege to stand before you on this momentous occasion. You have earned this celebration. Through your resilience, your hard work, and your growth, you’ve made it here - together.” Ms. Voitier reminded the seniors that their perseverance and dedication will lead them in their respective journeys. She also ended with this reminder. “Remember - you are loved and you will always have a place here because you are - and will always be - a part of our Owl family.”

Eight seniors were named as Valedictorians for the Class of 2026. Each was seated on stage as an honoree and given the chance to address those attending. They included:

Chalmette High Principal William Schneider highlighted the remarkable accomplishments of the graduating class. He shared that the students earned over $30 million in scholarships - a record-breaking achievement that speaks volumes about their perseverance and ambition. Chalmette High Assistant Principal Carole Mundt announced the graduates who crossed the stage to receive their diplomas and take their picture with Schneider and Warner. Then, Senior Class Public Relations Officer Christian Miller read the Benediction. The ceremony concluded fittingly with Chalmette High’s Alma Mater, followed by cheers, graduation caps being tossed into the air like confetti, and well wishes as these leaders of tomorrow leave the nest.
