St. Bernard Parish Educators Honored at Louisiana Reading Association State Banquet

The St. Bernard Parish Public School System proudly celebrated several educators who were recognized at the Louisiana Reading Association's (LRA) State Banquet, held earlier this July at Paragon Casino in Marksville, Louisiana.

Representatives from St. Bernard Parish received multiple statewide honors recognizing their dedication to literacy, educational leadership, and service:

  • Cassandra Reddick, Principal of W. Smith, Jr. Elementary School, was named the Louisiana Reading Association Principal of the Year, recognizing her outstanding leadership and commitment to student achievement and literacy.
  • Yvonne Ben, a retired special education teacher and educational diagnostician who now serves the district as a substitute educational diagnostician, received the Louisiana Reading Association Service Award for her years of dedication and lasting contributions to literacy and education.
  • Marcey Fradella, President of the St. Bernard Reading Association and teacher, media specialist, and webmaster at N.P. Trist Middle School, was honored with the Louisiana Reading Association Media Award for excellence in promoting literacy through communication and educational media.

The Louisiana Reading Association also recognized several St. Bernard Parish Public School System educators on their retirement, congratulating Melinda Hall, Michelle Ingraffia, and Lisa Young for their years of service and dedication to students.

Founded in 1946, the Louisiana Reading Association works to advance literacy across the state by supporting educators, promoting effective instructional practices, and recognizing outstanding contributions to the field. These statewide honors reflect the St. Bernard Parish Public School System's continued commitment to fostering literacy, educational excellence, and lifelong learning.
