SBPSB Academic Games National Teams Compete in Charlotte
Chalmette, LA - The St. Bernard Parish's Academic Games Teams recently returned from competing in this year's Academic Games League of America tournament held in Charlotte, North Carolina with a number of awards. The national players were accompanied by the district's local and national Academic Games coordinator and coaches: Alisha Capstick, Jonathan Palazzolo, Jaida Alphonso, Abbie Schilling, Lori Gilchrist, Christina Crego, and Melinda Hall.
The Senior Division finished 5th in Presidents, and Senior Christian Miller was given the Outstanding Senior Award and a $500 check. The Middle Division team finished 7th in Equations, 6th in both Presidents and Propaganda, 4th in On-Sets, and 5th in Sweepstakes. Middle Division’s Jack McMullin and Jonah Capstick scored 23 of 24 in On-Sets, never losing a match, but tying for first in one round. The Elementary Team also excelled, placing 5th in Propaganda. Luke Gagnard also earned the 4th place Propaganda Individual Award.

Mary Lumetta, Deputy Superintendent for the district and one of the organizers of the games, said that SBPSB teams are able to compete on the national stage each year because of the hard work and dedication of the school sponsors as well as the district staff.
"We are so proud of the teamwork that enabled us to provide this experience at the Maumus Center all year for so many of our students," Lumetta said. "It's been a rewarding, competitive season, and we are so proud of all of our coaches and players for representing the school system so well at Nationals."

Their sponsorship truly helps make the games possible and allows our players to compete on the national stage.”
