Ringing in the Class of 2026 - Chalmette High Ring Day Returns to Bobby Nuss Stadium

Chalmette High School Celebrates Ring Day for the Class of 2026

Chalmette, LA -  A beautiful September sky was the perfect backdrop for a sunny ceremony when Chalmette High School recently celebrated Ring Day for the class of 2026. Over 500 seniors took part in this annual event and time-honored tradition. Held on the field of Bobby Nuss Stadium, this major milestone on the path to graduation commemorates the achievements, contributions, and leadership of this year’s senior class.

After the Presentation of Colors by the ROTC and the National Anthem by the CHS Voices and Fighting Owl band kicked things off, Principal Will Schneider took to the podium and reminded the Class of 2026 about the symbolism of their new rings.

“Seniors, as you receive your rings today, think of them as symbols not only of your hard work and dedication but also of the pride, strength, and resilience that have defined generations of Fighting Owls before you,” Schneider said. “I hope that each time you look at your ring, you feel a sense of pride - not just in yourself but also in each other. You are a part of a legacy, one built by those who came before, built by those sitting beside you today, and will continue to be built by those who will follow you.”

In her remarks to the graduates, Superintendent Doris Voitier spoke about the significance of this year’s Ring Day and what it represents for the Class of 2026. “This year’s senior class is a living testament to the strength and resilience that rebuilt our community after Hurricane Katrina 20 years ago,” she said. “You are the children of that recovery - proof that from deep roots, new growth always comes.” She also reminded students that the district’s theme of Strong Roots, Bright Futures is more than just words. “It’s a reminder that who we are and where we come from will always ground us,” Voitier said. “Your education, your character, and your compassion are the light that will continue to guide St. Bernard Parish forward.”

After receiving their class rings, the seniors each walked through the ceremonial, decorative “C” ring as family members in attendance cheered and took photos.

Also on hand for his 60th Ring Day was Principal Wayne Warner, who joined the other members of the Chalmette High Administration as well as members of the School Board in congratulating this year’s senior class.

In addition to recognizing the Senior Class Officers and Homecoming Court, Assistant Principal Kelli Watson also honored two other outstanding Owls -  Maya Dufrene and Lillian Lai - for their recent recognition as National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists.

As it does each year, the ceremony began with a parade and ended with the singing of the alma mater and fight song. Assistant Principal Cookie Mundt said she is grateful to be a part of such a special day. She was also quick to thank all of the behind the scenes people who made the event possible. “Thank you so much to the partners, parents and guardians for your support, to our amazing teachers and staff for their tireless work in helping each child grow each and every day, and to our seniors, we appreciate your continued hard work. Congratulations and Fly High, Owls.”
