Community Comes Together to Celebrate the Retirement of Three Beloved St. Bernard Educators

ST. BERNARD PARISH, La. — Friends, family members, colleagues, former students and community members gathered recently at Docville Farm to celebrate the retirement of three educators whose combined careers represent decades of dedicated service to the students and families of St. Bernard Parish: Wayne Warner, Carole Mundt and Doris Voitier.

Hosted by the Chalmette High School Alumni Association at Docville’s Dave Thompson Event Barn, the celebration brought together an incredible turnout of friends, supporters, elected officials, School Board members and school system leaders who came to honor the three educators and reflect on the lasting impact they have made throughout their careers.

One of the afternoon’s attendees was Parish President Louis Pomes, who recognized Warner and Mundt with the same Commendation plaques presented to Voitier during her recent retirement celebration. The plaques congratulated and thanked all three leaders for their years of dedicated service to the children and families of St. Bernard Parish, recognizing the lasting contributions they have made to the community.

The celebration was made possible through the generosity and support of numerous community partners, local businesses and individuals. Special appreciation is extended to the Meraux Foundation for the use of its beautiful event space, as well as to the many individuals, organizations and local businesses whose generosity and support contributed to the success of the event.

Special thanks are extended to Sheriff James Pohlman, Parish President Louis Pomes, Johnny Ginart and Associates, District Attorney Perry Nicosia, David and Sandra Gorbaty, Clerk of Court Randy Nunez, David Fernandez, Debbie Gaudet, Beryl Hargis, Harold Anderson, Roger and Sharon Campagna, Ronnie Kornick and Guy McInnis.

The celebration also received generous support from local businesses, including Tag’s, Jeanfreau’s, Gerald’s, Rocky’s, Dat Kitchen, Kitchen @ Meraux Food Store – Paris Road, Clements Insurance, Crave, Domino’s Pizza, WOW, Canseco’s in Arabi, Today’s Ketch, Brewster’s, Breaux Mart, Coffee House, Coca-Cola, Southern Eagle, Owl Fun Camp and Cane’s.

Chalmette High School Principal Will Schneider said the gathering was a fitting way for the community to honor three individuals whose influence extends far beyond their years in the classroom and school system.

“There really is no event big enough to match the contributions these three individuals have made or the impact they have had on thousands of people throughout our community,” Schneider said. “But bringing everyone together to share memories, celebrate their careers, and simply give them the opportunity to hear ‘thank you’ from the people they have served felt like a meaningful way to honor the legacy they have created. We are incredibly grateful for everything Wayne, Carole, and Doris have given to our students, our schools, and our community.”

For Warner, Mundt, and Voitier, the celebration marked not only the beginning of a new chapter, but a reflection of the many lives touched throughout their careers.

The St. Bernard Parish Public School System congratulates Wayne Warner, Carole Mundt and Doris Voitier as they begin this well-deserved new chapter and extends its deepest appreciation for their years of service, leadership and dedication to the children and families of St. Bernard Parish.
