CHS Senior Jackson Nunez Award Posse Scholarship

Chalmette High School Senior Jackson Nunez Awarded Posse Scholarship

Chalmette, LA - For the 12th consecutive year, a Chalmette High School senior has been named a Posse Scholar. Recently, Chalmette High’s 2025 Student of the Year Jackson Nunez was notified that he had been awarded this prestigious, four-year scholarship — valued at over $250,000. Jackson will attend Villanova University in Pennsylvania to continue his studies. He plans to study global affairs as part of his pre-law track.

The Posse Foundation identifies, recruits, and trains student leaders from public high schools. Candidates take part in an intensive interview process and training program for enrollment at top-tier universities nationwide, and upon selection, enroll as part of a small team — a Posse.

Over the last several years, CHS seniors have earned over six  and half million dollars in Posse scholarship money, attending prestigious universities across the country. In addition to Villanova University, other CHS recipients have attended Tulane, Bard College, Illinois Wesleyan University, the University of Notre Dame, and Case Western Reserve.

David Bellard, a veteran teacher at CHS, also serves as the Posse coordinator. He said this year’s scholar is well prepared for the rigor and expectations of the program ahead. “We are thrilled to see Jackson take this next step in his academic and leadership journey at Villanova while proudly representing Chalmette High School,” Bellard said. “His drive, character, and commitment to serving his school community reflect the values we strive to nurture in all of our students. We are deeply thankful to both Posse and Villanova for their continued partnership in supporting the students of St. Bernard Parish.”

Sydney Porter, who serves as the Posse New Orleans Program Coordinator, said that during the assessment process, Jackson demonstrated “admirable leadership, intellect, and a commitment to making a difference.” Porter also credited Bellard for his commitment to the program and his students. “Every Posse Scholar success story begins with someone believing in them. You’ve been that person for your students.”

Jackson is a remarkably accomplished and highly recognized student, celebrated not only as Chalmette High’s 2025 Student of the Year but also a three-time district-wide Student of the Year - earning the honor in 8th grade at NP Trist Middle School and in 5th grade at Joe Davies Elementary. Beyond his academic achievements, Jackson is an active athlete in multiple sports, participates in a wide variety of clubs and organizations, serves on student council, and has earned numerous leadership titles. Most recently, he was named “Mr. Chalmette,” a senior title recognizing the young man who best embodies the spirit, mission, and values of Chalmette High - a true representative of what it means to be an Owl. His dedication, talent, and leadership exemplify the qualities that make him a model Posse Scholar and a standout member of the CHS community.
