Degrees and Certifications:
Mrs. Bridget Bitely
Welcome Viking Students, Families, and Community Members!
I'm sure you are here to learn a few little bits of information about Mrs. Bitely (or Ms. B. as the kids call her!). So, here you go!
Mrs. Bitely was born and raised in Washington, DC. She graduated from Queens University of Charlotte in North Carolina in 2009. From there she joined the AmeriCorps and moved to St Bernard Parish (down the road in Meraux was her first house here) to rebuild houses with the St Bernard Project. She did that for 3 years before joining the St Bernard Parish School system as a Reading Interventionist at W. Smith Elementary. Following that, she became a full-time classroom teacher at W. Smith as a First Grade teacher. She spent 5 years there as both a teacher and Teacher Leader.
Taking a break from the classroom wasn't an easy choice for Ms B, but she needed to take care of her kids (Ahpace 9, Fox 5, and Iris 2). During that break we all experienced the dreaded pandemic, and that is when Ms B really got involved in a STEAM company called Challenge Island, teaching after-school clubs, fostering a love for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math.
Fewf, that's a lot for just a few years, right?! Well, that isn't where her story stops! After leaving the classroom, she began baking for The Coffee House in Arabi. You may have even eaten a treat or two that she made! Yum!
But, there is just something about the classroom that she couldn't stay away from! So, here she is, a VIKING!
This year Ms. B. will be teaching 5th Grade Math and Science.
Other than her 3 kids, she is married to her husband Jeremy and has 2 dogs named Scout and Rorschach. You can usually find her with a coffee or a Dr. Pepper close by. She likes to rescue plants and bake new treats in her free time.
Stop by her room any time to relax, learn something new, and probably grab a treat!
