Greeting
Hello Owls! I am extremely excited to be a part of the wonderful faculty and staff at Chalmette High School teaching Biology. I love teaching biology because it offers one an opportunity to better understand themselves and to develop a greater appreciation of all the living things around them. My goal is to encourage and enhance each students' critical thinking abilities by instilling in them a growth mindset to help advance both their social and educational success.
Background
Mrs. Carreras was born and raised in St. Bernard Parish, where she attended public school from kindergarten to 9th grade, and then went on to graduate from Archbishop Hannan High School. After graduating from high school, Mrs. Carreras pursued her college education at the University of New Orleans where she earned a Bachelors Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies focusing on Education in Urban Society. Mrs. Carreras also worked for a New Orleans law firm for several years before earning her LA Teaching Certificate through the Teach St. Bernard Program. Before becoming an Owl, Mrs. Carreras taught 6th-8th grade science at both Andrew Jackson Middle School and N.P. Trist Middle School. At the middle school level, Mrs. Carreras helped sponsor the drama club.
Aside from teaching, Mrs. Carreras enjoys spending time with her husband, two sons, and their dogs. She loves music (all genres), dancing, playing cards and board games, going to sporting events, traveling, online shopping and food.
** Mrs. Carreras is here to support the students in any way she can. Please do not hesitate to reach out to her via email at stephanie.carreras@sbpsb.org.
