Mrs. Byrd is an eighth grade English and Language Arts (ELA) teacher at Andrew Jackson Middle School. She grew up in Arkansas and later in Mississippi, then earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from the University of Southern Mississippi, Hattiesburg, and she is currently earning her Master's Degree in Teaching and Learning (with a certificate in English as a Second Language) from The University of Holy Cross New Orleans. Mrs. Byrd is a firm believer that there is no such thing as a “smart” or “stupid” child; every individual comes to a class with a unique set of skills, knowledge, strengths and weaknesses, and it is an educator’s responsibility and honor to develop each student into the best version of themselves. Mrs. Byrd has lived and taught within the St. Bernard Parish community for four years and is eager to work with this year’s crop of budding young minds, as well as with their guardians and community to establish an enriched and holistic environment within which the students can flourish. Outside of school, you will find her with her husband, Adam (Engineering teacher, Chalmette High School), and her daughter, Alice (5 y.o.), exploring the area and loving every minute of it (especially the food, the music, and the people)!
