Mrs. Byrd is a seventh grade Mathematics teacher at Andrew Jackson Middle School. She grew up in Arkansas and later in Mississippi, then earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from the University of Southern Mississippi, Hattiesburg. Mrs. Byrd is a firm believer that there is no such thing as a “smart” or “stupid” child; every individual comes to a class with a unique set of skills, knowledge, strengths and weaknesses, and it is an educator’s responsibility and honor to develop each student into the best version of themselves. Mrs. Byrd just joined the St. Bernard Parish community from out of state and is eager to work with this year’s crop of budding young minds, as well as with their guardians and community to establish an enriched and holistic environment within which the students can flourish. Outside of school, you will find her with her husband, Adam (Mathematics Inclusion teacher, Chalmette High School), and her daughter, Alice (16 mos.), exploring the area and loving every minute of it (especially the food, the music, and the people)!
