Dr. Adam Hathorne
Dr. Hathorne joined the Saint Bernard team because he appreciated it's deep-rooted sense of community. He believes that the best method of creating a positive future is through the education of today's youth. Having obtained his bachelors degree in Polymer Science from the University of Southern Mississippi, his thirst for knowledge led him to complete his doctoral degree at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. During his interim at graduate school, he participated in multiple outreach programs, enlightening him to the personal enjoyment that accompanies teaching others.
Education should not be a chore or a requirement; it is an opportunity and a blessing provided by those that came before. We have an obligation to see their dreams and our own reach fruition through the positive encouragement of our children. Achieving the best possible future for everyone means understanding that not all individuals learn in the same manner. The best utilization of everyone's potential lies in appreciating their strengths and weaknesses, and capitalizing on the strengths while minimizing the weaknesses. Dr. Hathorne supports that this educational strategy requires differentiation of his teaching method, and he strives to nurture successful promotion through achievable life goals.
A proud sponsor of the Tabletop Gamers Club, Dr. Hathorne works to promote critical thinking and social development. The Tabletop Gamers are a collection of individuals who enjoy spending time with peers while practicing strategically developed goal execution, conflict resolution, time management, and balancing work/recreation responsibilities. Clubs are a fun and positive outlet for students to enjoy themselves, but they also offer a wonderful opportunity for personal development. Club activities are held on Fridays, afterschool, from 2:30 to 4:00 pm in room #237 on the Main Campus. It is not required that students attend the entire time block, only that they have made ride accommodations and act respectably while attending club.
Married to Mrs. Sabrina Byrd, an English teacher at Andrew Jackson Middle School, Dr. Hathorne is the blessed father of one Alice Hathorne, 4 years old. He is excited to be part of a community in which he can feel both safe and confident in his daughter's success as she joins this educational community. Our children are our future. Let us all invest in their growth.
