Ms. Margaret Gillespie
Margaret Gillespie is originally from the New Jersey Coastline. She attended college at The Pennsylvania State University where she earned a degree in Secondary Education. Ms. Gillespie began her career in education in central Pennsylvania as a student teacher of English III and Honors Composition. Ms. Gillespie has since earned her certification in the art of teaching English Langauge Arts. Ms. Gillespie now lives in New Orleans and is a teacher at Chalmette High School in the Ninth Grade Academy. She teaches English I and English II.
In true English teacher fashion, Ms. Gillespie is an avid reader. Her favorite works include A Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry, Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides, and the Harry Potter series. She is open to recommendations and loves discussion!
When Ms. Gillespie is not teaching, she enjoys spending her time exploring nature. While growing up on the coast, Ms. Gillespie spent her time swimming and kayaking. During college she took to the mountains and became a recreational snowboarder, hiker, and climber throughout the Appalachians. She has visited wolf sanctuaries and encountered all forms of wildlife from bears to rattlesnakes. Ms. Gillespie is looking forward to exploring the beauty of Louisiana!
Ms. Gillespie has always had a passion for education. She became a teacher to work with students and create a space in which for them to grow. She believes that English education provides students with the opportunity to explore themselves, others, and the world. These opportunities are necessary to make meaningful connections and master the skills that will lead to success!
