The Andrew Jackson Middle School Running Team is an afterschool team of students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade. Being a part of the running team is a commitment that students and coaches make towards staying active, healthy, and mindful of how our physical health contributes towards our mental and emotional well-being. The team is sponsored by a local non-profit called Youth Run Nola. Our running team will practice twice per week in an effort to train for monthly 5K runs (3.1 miles) and the end-of-the-year 10K event (The Crescent City Classic, 6.2 miles). Tuesday practices will run until 4:30 pm, and Thursday practices will run until 4:00 pm.
Throughout the year, some students even train for a half marathon (13.1 miles), which occurs in the winter. This commitment is not required and is only offered to those interested. Training for the half marathon will require students to attend additional Saturday practices.
The season for our running team begins in August (a tryout date will appear on the monthly school calendar) and our season ends after the weekend of the Crescent City Classic (April 2018).
