Mrs. Maldonado is a sixth grade English teacher at Andrew Jackson Middle School. She was born and raised in Nashville, Tennessee, and she attended the University of Tennessee where she studied education and political science. She has lived in New Orleans for seven years, and she has two daughters, a husband, and two cats.
In 2018, Mrs. Maldonado was a semifinalist for Louisiana State Teacher of the Year! This honor meant a lot to her, and she continues to strive to give her best to her students.
The 2018 - 2019 school year marks her tenth year in the middle school classroom, and she is so excited to keep on teaching for at least another twenty!
Though she is a middle school teacher, she also has experience in teaching preschool, elementary school, and high school. She decided to stick with middle school eight years ago because she loves the unique perspectives and ideas that middle school kids have to offer. In addition to teaching ELA/Reading, Mrs. Maldonado has taught American history, world history, and earth science. She loves to teach reading because she gets to integrate the other subjects' content into her own - one can read about anything!
She is good at recommending books to suit young personalities, she is passionate about writing, and she loves working with kids all day.
Please don't hesitate to reach out with any comments, questions, or concerns that you may have about your child's success in middle school. Sixth grade is such an important transitional year for students, and Mrs. Maldonado is here to help them to be successful in a new, sometimes overwhelming environment.
