Major Reynolds W. Rigney, Sr.
Major Reynolds Rigney came to Chalmette High School on July 19, 2012, as the Air Force Junior ROTC Senior Aerospace Science Instructor after 12 years teaching Junior ROTC in the Jefferson Parish Public School System: Eleven years as an Aerospace Science Instructor at West Jefferson High School and one year as Senior Aerospace Science Instructor at Grace King High School.
A 1970 graduate from St. Johns High School, Johns Island SC, Major Rigney graduated from Baptist College at Charleston in 1975 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree, double-major in Music and English. After teaching music and band at the Citadel Square Christian School, Charleston SC, for 5 years, he entered the U.S. Air Force in 1980, receiving his commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in July of that year. During his career in the Air Force, he completed assignments in Louisiana, South Carolina, California, New Mexico, Guam, Italy, and the Republic of Panama.
He holds a Master of Arts Degree in Secondary Counseling from Louisiana Tech University, and is a graduate of the Air Command and Staff College, Air Force Squadron Officer School, and Marine Corps Command and Staff College.
He retired from Air Force active duty on September 1, 1997.
