Mrs. Karen Melerine

Welcome to Mrs. Melerine’s class.  This is her 34th year teaching in St. Bernard Parish.  Mrs. Melerine taught middle school mathematics for two years at PGT Beauregard Middle School before transitioning to teach high school mathematics at St. Bernard High School where she taught for 13 years, until Hurricane Katrina hit.  Mrs. Melerine returned to teach at St. Bernard Unified School in January of 2006 and has been a Chalmette Owl ever since.

Mrs. Melerine is a lifelong resident of St. Bernard Parish.  She is proud to be a product of the St. Bernard Parish Public School System.  She attended Gauthier Elementary, Sebastien Roy Elementary, and graduated from PGT Beauregard High School. She comes from a family of educators. Her father, Donald Campbell, taught in St. Bernard Parish Schools until he retired in 1990. Her sister, Mrs. Gilchrist (Trist Middle), brother-in-law, Mr. Gilchrist (Meraux Elementary), and sister-in-law, Mrs. Campbell (Chalmette High) are all teachers in the St. Bernard Public School System.

Mrs. Melerine is looking forward to an exciting new year and can't wait to meet her new students.  She sets high expectations for her students, and enjoys seeing her students learn and grow throughout the school year. She hopes to foster an appreciation for mathematical concepts by enthusiastically engaging students in her classroom.
