Mrs. Jan Hughes
Welcome to Mrs. Hughes’ Physical Science class! Physical science is a one semester course designed to help prepare students for more advanced science classes by laying down a firm foundation of both Chemistry and Physics.
Mrs. Hughes has over fifteen years of experience teaching science. She’s taught Biology, Physical Science, Chemistry and Physics in a smaller private school setting before joining the staff and faculty of CHS in 2008. She proudly remains a part of the original Mighty Masked Owl Team on the first floor of the 9th Grade Academy. She earned her Bachelor of Science Degree from Southeastern Louisiana University and later went on to Our Lady of Holy Cross College to attain her teaching certificate.
Her passion for teaching was not discovered until after ten years of pursuing different science related job. She realized she wanted to teach after working for a chiropractor’s office. One of her many tasks were to educate new patients on the spine and how it interacts with their nervous system. Being able to empathize, express concern and display patience are some of the qualities that drove her desire to teach.
Outside of the classroom, she loves to spend time with her friends and family, as well as: read, shop, go to the movies and play volleyball. She resides in St. Bernard with her husband Mathew and two lovely children, Logan and Kasey.
