Elementary Literacy Activities
1. Read! Read! Read!
- Read 20 minutes a day.
- Take an Accelerated Reader test at school on the books you have read at home.
- Swap books with a friend. Share books throughout the school year.
- Ask a family member what their favorite book was as a child.
2. Visit your local library
- Take your child for a visit to the local library to check out a few books.
- Read the books together and discuss the characters and/or details in the book.
3. Write about it!
- Write about an adventure or an activity that you recently did with your family. Share your adventure with a friend.
- Invent a recipe for an after school snack. Write your recipe on an index card.
- Cut out pictures from a magazine. Write a story about them.
