Letter from the Principal
Welcome to the 2022-23 school year! I hope each of you had a nice summer, and you feel refreshed and ready for a new year of growth and learning! You should have received important information in the mail over the summer pertaining to the opening of school. The first day of school for 1st through 5th grade students is Friday, August 5th. Parents of kindergarten and preschool students should expect to receive a welcome phone call from the teacher which will include first day of school information. As you may be aware, our school day begins early; therefore, most of our buses will begin their routes at approximately 6:45 A.M. Please have your child ready and at the bus stop waiting for the driver.
Our focus is clear, we endeavor to educate every child, every day, in a safe, nurturing, positive, and structured learning environment. Academically, the curriculum staff has worked hard over the summer to prepare content, and our teachers are eager to return and teach standards-based lessons that facilitate the mastery of skills and critical thinking. Socially, we have an embedded system of connecting with students, and it is shown in many ways, which include staff mentors, clubs, and activities; all done to enhance the educational experience of our students.
We have designated August 3rd from 4-6 P.M. as the time for you to drop off school supplies, or you may choose to have your child bring supplies on the first day of school. Parents, please make plans to attend our Open House on August 11th to meet your child’s teacher, which will begin at 5:30 P.M. To stay informed, we encourage parents to use the online tools available, including School Status, the school and district websites, individual teacher web pages, and our Smith Facebook Page, but also look for our monthly newsletter and quarterly parent survey that will come home with your child.
Looking forward to a year of “Excellence and Empathy”!
