Update from the Superintendent

  • Dear Parents, Guardians, and Families,

I know many of you have expressed concerns or have questions regarding the potential challenges of the saltwater intrusion. The St. Bernard Parish Public school system is working with parish officials and GOHSEP (Governor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness) as the saltwater from the Gulf continues moving into the Mississippi River, which could result in some local water restrictions.

In preparation, we have purchased and will continue to purchase bottled water for students and staff as needed, and we’ve planned future food menus if it is necessary to accommodate for possible water restrictions. We are also working with our maintenance department to protect our equipment. Currently, there are no plans to transition to remote learning.

Our school and families have met many challenges in the past. From devastating storms to a global pandemic, we have overcome them all by working together. As part of the Office of Emergency Preparedness team, we are monitoring the situation and communicating regularly with local and state leaders to make the right decisions based on the most current information available. Our priority is always to provide quality education to the children of our community in a safe environment.  We appreciate your concerns and will provide updates as we continue to monitor the situation.

Thank you for being a part of our school family and for your ongoing support.

    Doris Voitier

Superintendent of St. Bernard Parish Public Schools
