Mr. Brian Wasik
Bienvenidos todos a la clase de Español de Señor Wasik!
Sr. Wasik was born in Connecticut to a New Orleans native mom and a local CT resident dad. After high school, Sr. Wasik attended George Washington University in Washington, DC, where he majored in Human Services & Social Justice and minored in Psychology and Spanish. While at college, Sr. Wasik got involved with community service in as many ways he knew how, first joining the national community service fraternity Alpha Phi Omega, then tutoring local students within a local nonprofit organization, and finally helping to lead Alternative Service Breaks to New York City, Los Angeles, and New Orleans.
Sr. Wasik’s passion for the Spanish language and broader Hispanic culture developed during his semester abroad in Sevilla, Spain. Sr. Wasik had taken Spanish in school since the 4th grade, and knew he wanted to continue in college. His diverse Spanish coursework background in the US and abroad as well as his first hand exposure to the day-to-day culture in Spain led him to want to continue learning and ultimately start teaching the language.
He sees foreign language, and Spanish in particular, as an incredibly valuable tool to empathize with other people and experience other cultures in a meaningful way. With that, he’s excited to incorporate food, music, dance, literature, and history into the language learning process so all students can begin to experience and understand the culture like a native.
