Letter from the Principal
Dear Gauthier Families,
As summer begins, I would like to express how grateful I am to be leading such an amazing community of students, parents, faculty and staff. It has been a great school year! This would not have been possible without the support of everyone. It truly takes a village.
I would especially like to thank our hard working and caring faculty and staff who have made a huge difference to our students. Their commitment is outstanding and our students are the beneficiaries. They deserve many accolades for providing rich and engaging experiences and fostering curiosity, along with development of social skills needed to succeed. For these, and a million other things, I am truly grateful.
We are very fortunate to have made so many great memories and have had such wonderful events to look back on. We celebrated our Terrific Kids each month. We honored our students who had perfect attendance and/or were on the honor roll quarterly. We awarded our students who met their quarterly Lexia goals with pajama days & our students who met their quarterly AR goals with free dress days. Our students participated in Starbase at Jackson Barracks, learned to swim at the Chalmette High Natatorium, went on visits to the Maumus Center/planetarium, celebrated Literacy Week, enjoyed Spirit Week, participated in Academic Games tournaments and won several medals in the District Special Olympics. Our year ended with wonderful award ceremonies filled with pride and celebration of student accomplishments. We are all very proud of all of our students and their successes.
In closing, I take this opportunity to congratulate all students of J. F. Gauthier Elementary School! I wish you all a very happy, safe and enjoyable summer. Please be sure to take time as family to talk, play and READ together.

In support of our district literacy goals, students who are entering 3rd-5th grades are asked to read one or more novels from the approved list. Upon returning to school in August, students will complete their summer reading log and take ARP test(s) on the books read over the summer. Extra credit for the 2022-2023 school year will be awarded for successful completion of the reading log and ARP test(s). You may purchase these books for your child to read during the summer, visit the public library, or go to your child's school - each school site will have a limited number to check out. The approved reading list will be sent home with your child's report card.
If you would like your child to get a library book or take an ARP test this summer, the library at Davies will be open from June 1 - 30 from 8:15 - 12:45. Children must be accompanied by an adult. This summer reading program is NOT linked to ARP for the school year. Thanks, and Happy Reading!
ELA Resources: This summer, your child can use Lexia Reading at home. Lexia is a fun, computer-based program that helps students improve their literacy skills. Over the summer, you can support progress in the program by reading daily with your child and talking about what you have read. You can also visit our literacy department webpage located on the district website for additional summer reading activities.
Math Resources: Your child can practice important math skills this summer to prepare for success in math next school year. Our elementary students will continue to have access to Zearn from their clever accounts until June 30th. We will reset the elementary Zearn accounts to a specific Zearn mission in June to review important math skills over the summer. Although your child may have already completed most Zearn lessons this year, we believe your child will benefit from the extra practice on the Zearn missions selected for this summer.
