Thank you for your patience during this unprecedented time.  Administration has been diligently working to coordinate the details surrounding the end of your child’s senior year.  It is unfortunate that we are in this situation, but we are in this together, and we are doing everything possible to make this experience as personal and as memorable as possible.

There are several major events that will be happening in the very near future. If you have any questions during this process, please email one of the administrators (emails can be found on the CHS website), and we will get back to you as quickly as possible.

Please review the information below as it will answer many of your questions.

Senior Debt Payment / Material Return DayThe following bullets will outline how students can pay debts and drop off any CHS materials.

    • Debt notices were mailed home. These notices detail items and their amounts, and they also give the total debt owed to the school.

    • Students should return items such as textbooks, calculators, band or athletic equipment, library books, etc.

      • Students have been assigned a time to come to CHS. Please see the chart below.
      • Park in the football stadium parking lot and form a line starting by the cafeteria entrance. The line will continue down Palmisano toward St. Bernard Highway. (Faculty and staff will be present to help with this.)
      • Items will be given to a faculty member who will document what has been returned.
      • Students will also have the opportunity to pay any outstanding debts. Debts can only be paid with cash or credit card.
      • If students have nothing to return or no outstanding debts, they do not need to come of any of these days.

    Senior Supply Day

Awards Night - The Class of 2020 is one of our most decorated classes in recent years. We are looking forward to celebrating their accomplishments.

    • Virtual Awards Night is Thursday, May 7, at 7p.m.
    • The link to watch the ceremony will be posted on all of our digital platforms – CHS website, CHS Facebook page, CHS Instagram page.
    • During this ceremony, the following will be announced: Meraux Scholarship recipients, other individual scholarships, CHS Annual Titles, and the coveted Golden Owls.
    • Award recipients will be recognized, and awards/scholarships will be distributed at the commencement filming.

Honors Banquet - Many seniors have worked exceptionally hard over their four year career and have earned the distinction of graduating with honors.  Due to the pandemic and the social distancing/gathering restrictions, we are still committed to holding a Virtual Honors Banquet.

    • Any student with a cumulative 3.3 GPA will receive an Honor cord at Senior Supply Day along with an Honors Banquet program.
    • The Virtual Honors Banquet is Friday, May 8, at 7p.m.
    • The link to the banquet will be posted on our digital platforms – CHS website, CHS Facebook page, CHS Instagram page.
    • During the banquet, CHS Administration will address the honor graduates, the Beta Club president will address the class, those who will graduate with honors will be recognized, and the Top 5 Honor Graduates will be announced.
    • Honor cords will have already been distributed at the Senior Supply Day, but stoles for the Top 5 Honor Graduates will be distributed at the commencement filming.

Graduation - We want nothing more than to host a traditional graduation ceremony for the Class of 2020, but it is important that we continue to prioritize the health and wellbeing of our community in the coming weeks and months. After much deliberation and consideration, we have made the decision to recognize the Class of 2020 in a virtual commencement ceremony.

    • Our goal is to use technology to make graduation personal and memorable. We will broadcast a prerecorded ceremony featuring the traditional Chalmette High School graduation program that our community has come to know and love - with some very special touches. This year’s graduation will celebrate the achievements of close to 550 graduates. With social distancing recommendations still in place, we are not able to gather a crowd of that size for some time. We are committed to making this ceremony as meaningful as if it were live.
    • We know that the most meaningful moment in a senior’s educational career is walking across the stage and receiving his or her diploma. We are committed to making this still happen. This year’s ceremony will not be held at the UNO Lakefront Arena; instead, seniors will have the opportunity to be filmed walking across the Chalmette High School graduation stage in their cap and gown alongside a small number of family members.
    • Seniors will be allowed to enter the Chalmette Cultural Arts Center with 4 family members on specific dates and times.
    • Seniors will be recognized and walk across the stage to receive their diploma.
    • This ceremony will be recorded over several days as only a limited number of people (students and family members) will be allowed in the building at a time.
    • Our virtual graduation will also recognize all of our honor graduates, scholarship winners and award recipients.
    • Graduation speeches will also be a part of this special event.
    • These moments and other highlights will be edited and broadcast on several platforms for our families and community to view.
    • The night of the broadcast will also include small, live watch parties throughout the community. More information about how to get virtually involved will be available in the coming weeks.
    • The specific dates, times, and instructions will be given to seniors at the May 6 and May 7 Senior Supply Days.

As always, if there are any questions, please email one of the CHS Administrators.  Email addresses can be found on our webpage.
