Adult Education FAQ

  • How old must you be to enter into Adult Education?

    You must be 18 years of age or older and no longer enrolled in school.

    Persons under the age of 19 years old must have a drop slip from the last school attended.  Persons under 18 years of age must have special permission to attend and must have a school board waiver and drop slip from the last school attended.

  • What is the HiSET?

    Educational Testing Service (ETS) is giving the HiSET as the official test in LA for people who did not achieve a traditional high school diploma.  The HiSET is equivalent to a high school diploma and replaces the GED.

  • What are class times and how often are registrations held?

    Registration is held every six weeks.  Class times are M –F 8:00 – 11:30; 12:00 – 3:30 and on Tuesdays/Wednesdays a night class is offered from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm.

  • How much is the HiSET?

    The battery of tests (all 5) will cost $90.00.  The battery is good for one calendar year from scheduling/paying.  You have 2 retests available at a cost of $6 each with the purchased battery.

  • How long does it take before I get my high school equivalency diploma?

    This will depend on what level of TABE that you test and your consistency of attendance.  A drop will occur after 5 missed classes.

  • What is needed to register for Adult Education classes?

    Posted by:

    A valid state ID or Driver’s License is needed plus a $20 registration fee.

    A complete diagnostic assessment (TABE) in math, reading, and language will be given to each student during registration.  This assessment will take about 3 hours to administer.
